Five Year Capital Projects
A 'Capital Project' consists of equipment, apparatus, new construction or other items that are purchased with fundraising money or on occasion, grant money. The use of 'Operational' money, meaning money we receive from local and/or state govenments, is not permitted to be used for these types of purchases. This section will show what equipment, apparatus, new construction or other items have been placed into the 'Five Year' Projects. When the item reaches the end of the timetable, it will be re-examined and a determination will be made concerning the whether it stays a 'Five Year' Project, gets purchased or is removed from our 'Capital Projects' list.
The Company meets every year to discuss what equipment, apparatus, new construction or other items need to be purchased over a specified period of years. For instance, we replace or refurbish fire engines every 20 years. The purchase or refurbishment of a large unit like a fire engine, costs anywhere from $100,000 to $700,000. For this reason, we project when the replacement fire engine is needed, which gives us an idea of when we need to start saving for that particular unit.
The following list, shows what current 'Capital Projects' we must or should complete in the next five years.
1. Replacement of Ambulance 89. This type of apparatus is usually replaced every 4 to 6 years.
