Since Friday, fire departments across the state have responded to numerous large brush fires. Extremely high winds, low humidity and very dry ground cover, make conditions for brush fires favorable. The winds in some cases, caused overhead electric wires to either arc and shower the ground with sparks or the electric wires fell to the ground to set fires. Large brush fires in Baltimore, Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Frederick Counties, kept crews busy all weekend.

At about 12:30 on Saturday, Brush 85 responded to investigate a fire along McKinstrys Mill Rd. The fire was out on arrival. While returning to the station, Brush 85 was dispatched to transfer to Mount Airy while their units assisted Montgomery County on a large brush fire. They were soon dispatched to assist Frederick County on Box 17-12 (Libertytown) for a brush fire in the 8100 block of Timmons Rd. This fire quickly escalated and Engine/Tanker 82 was dispatched to assist. Crews and units from about 15 different departments from both Frederick and Carroll Counties, assisted on the 46 acre fire for about 3 hours.

Today, at around 2:00, Brush 85 was dispatched to assist on Box 10-11 (New Windsor) for a brush fire in the 400 block of South Springdale Rd. Then Engine/Tanker 82 transferred to New Windsor. Around 2 acres burned and Union Bridge units returned at around 3:30.
