Working Fire in Westminster
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Captain Christopher Harris
June 20, 2016

Box 3-4. At 1738 hrs, "Carroll" dispatched units from Stations 3, 6, 10 and 9; for a house fire in the 500 block of Yellow Lily Court in Westminster. Upon arrival of Engine 33 (Sgt 3-2) reported a 2 story single family dwelling with heavy fire showing on Side "C". Sgt 3-2 established "Yellow Lily Ct Command" and advised they were initiating an attack through Side "A".

A "Working Fire Dispatch" was requested as other units arrived to assist with the fire attack. Another heavy attack line was taken to Side "C" as firefighters found heavy fire conditions on the 1st and 2nd floors, as well as fire extending into the attic. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the interior and exterior fire, however, the heavy fire conditions had already fully engulfed the attic, which "self vented" before crews could get to it.

Two additional Engines were requested to the scene as the fire was contained and brought under control to assist as "relief crews". Extensive overhaul was needed to insure all fire was extinguished. About 45 Fire and EMS personnel were on-scene.

There was one minor injury reported (civilian) who received treatment on the scene and was not transported. The incident is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office with the possible cause of the fire being a malfunctioning grill on the deck.

Units cleared the scene at around 1945 hrs.
